Warwickshire Secondary Book Award 2018 - Winner Announced!
We are delighted to announce that the winner for the Warwickshire Secondary Book Award 2018 is Lie, Kill, Walk Away by Matt Dickinson! The winning author for this award is chosen by students in Year 7 and 8 from schools across the county, who all came together for the final celebration in March. Both the winner, Matt Dickinson, and runner up Geraldine McCaughrean attended the awards ceremony at Avon Valley School and spoke to the pupils about the joys of reading and writing books.
Congratulations to all of our shortlisted authors, Lawrence Anholt with The Hypnotist, Geraldine McCaughrean with Where the World Ends, Matt Dickinson with Lie Kill Walk Away, Jane Mitchell with A Dangerous Crossing, Kim Slater with 928 Miles From Home and Danny Weston with The Haunting of Jessop Rise. We have had wonderful feedback from the students
about all the books.
Many thanks to Avon Valley School for hosting and to Warwick Books for supporting this event.
This Award is aimed at students in Years 7 and 8. We ask students to read these six books and then vote for their favourite. The majority of Warwickshire's secondary schools participate each year in the book award, seeing it as a terrific opportunity for pupils to enjoy reading and discussion together. Students are also invited to the Final Award Ceremony in March 2018, where they have the opportunity to meet a prominent author, which they find both exciting and inspiring. Being part of a countrywide initiative offers real empowerment and schools regularly report students developing a greater sense of confidence and self-esteem.
